Energy from Waste

In Cornwall, we are planning to develop an Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facility near St Dennis, in the centre of the county. The Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre (CERC) will burn residual waste and generate electricity which will be exported to the National Grid and heat which will be exported to local industry.

EfW describes a number of technologies that extract value from our waste. The benefit of this type of waste management is that value is recovered from waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill. The power generated is classed as a renewable energy and replaces fossil fuel energy production.

We submitted a planning application for the CERC in April 2008. Click here to visit the webpage of Cornwall County Council's planning department where the planning application can be viewed.

We held a pre-application exhibition at two venues near to the proposed site in January 2008. Near to 500 people came along to see the plans, meet the experts and designers, ask questions and express their views.

We take part in a Site Liaison Group which provides local people with the opportunity to find out more about our proposals and to input into the planning application. Click here to view the group's newsletter and monthly meeting minutes.
